Fionnuala Lanigan is a contemporary painter based Ireland. 

Her abstract paintings explore the complexities of being human, where impermanence, vitality and decline coexist. Through colour, dissolving edges, fluid brushwork and gestural marks, she makes transience and loss visible. Rather than treating painting as static description, she uses it to register the passage of time. The work sits within the lineage of memento mori. The flower’s brevity offers a compressed model of human experience.

The work is shaped by the duality of the botanical, where visual beauty is held in tension with underlying chemical complexity. Her background in pharmacy informs her view of plants as biologically complex rather than merely symbolic. Blooms carry compounds that are both therapeutic and toxic, complicating the conventional association of flowers with sentiment or decoration.

She graduated with Distinction in Painting and Drawing Diploma from the RHA School/TU Dublin in May 2026. She is currently studying MA Art in the Contemporary World at NCAD and the TURPS Correspondence Course, London. She holds a BSc in Pharmacy from Trinity College Dublin.

She received Agility award Arts Council in 2026, and her work has been acquired by the Office of Public Works State Art Collection, Ireland, and private collectors in Los Angeles and Ireland.
